Magnificent seven short-listed for ‘The Don’

They inspired Australia with their epic feats over the past twelve months and now seven of Australia’s best will battle it out against each other for one of Australia’s most coveted sports awards – ‘The Don’ – at this year’s Sport Australia Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala Dinner presented by Etihad Airways.

Drawing from a long-list of over 20 potential candidates, seven finalists have been short-listed for ‘The Don’ to mark one month to go to this year’s ceremony, and the list includes a stellar cast of Australia’s best performers over the past year.


Preparations on song for 10th edition of Pacific School Games

South Australian two-time Olympic marathoner Jess Trengove was announced as the Games ambassador for the 10th edition of the Pacific School Games at the University of Adelaide this morning, as the first of the participating countries and the Games anthem were unveiled.

The marathon star and former Pacific School Games representative joined Minister for Tourism, Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell in previewing the world’s best multi-sport school competition for Australia and international students.


Medals and memories for the Uniroos in Taipei

With the Emerging Opals winning the basketball gold the Uniroos finish the 2017 Summer Universiade with nine medals – four gold, three silver and two bronze medals – and experiences to propel the 184-strong team to the next level in sport and in life.


Emerging Opals shine to take Uni Games Gold

The Emerging Opals have produced a masterclass for three quarters before getting the staggers to defeat Japan 85-78 to win the gold medal at the World University Games in Taipei.

After upset semi-final wins over the USA and hosts Chinese Taipei, the final looked likely to be a blow out with the Uniroos leading by 22 at three-quarter time.

In the end, a plucky Japan got the margin back to seven at the final buzzer. Whilst it was a lot closer than it looked in the final term, the Uniroos were never really in danger.

Membership to the Sport Australia Hall of Fame is widely considered the highest national sporting honour that can be bestowed. With 549 members, it represents the pinnacle of Australian sporting excellence.


Australian Olympic Committee Partners with Pacific School Games

Australian Olympic Committee president John Coates has welcomed a partnership with the Pacific School Games with under 200 days to go before the 10th edition begins in Adelaide later this year.

The biggest multi-sport school competition for Australian and international students will run from December 3-9 delivering a sporting, educational, cultural, social and life-long experience to those competing.


Women in sport juggernaut 100+ years in the making

Recently I attended a ‘Women in Sport’ celebration at Government House hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria.

It was a good opportunity for a range of influencers and contributors in sport in Victoria to come together to reflect on the significant contribution women have made in sport in Australia for more than 100 years.


Run for the Kids smashes through $15 million mark

The twelfth edition of the Herald Sun | CityLink Run for the Kids saw over 26,000 participants hit the streets of inner Melbourne, taking wet and cold conditions in their stride to raise $1.6 million for The Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
