Raelene Boyle AM MBE has become the 39th Legend of Australian sport and boxer Jeff Horn took home ‘The Don’ award for the athlete who most inspired the nation at the 33rd Sport Australia Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala, presented by Etihad Airways, in Melbourne.

Eight Australian sporting greats were inducted as members into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and five young athletes received Scholarship and Mentoring Program awards to assist in achieving their sporting dreams as the who’s who of Australian sport assembled for the annual gala.


Historic partnership to put athletics ahead of the race

Fresh from her win at the world championships in London, Sally Pearson announced in Sydney today a landmark partnership between Coles, Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia.

The three year multi-million dollar deal will support grassroots athletics across Australia.

Preparations on song for 10th edition of Pacific School Games

South Australian two-time Olympic marathoner Jess Trengove was announced as the Games ambassador for the 10th edition of the Pacific School Games at the University of Adelaide this morning, as the first of the participating countries and the Games anthem were unveiled.

The marathon star and former Pacific School Games representative joined Minister for Tourism, Recreation and Sport Leon Bignell in previewing the world’s best multi-sport school competition for Australia and international students.

Emerging Opals shine to take Uni Games Gold

The Emerging Opals have produced a masterclass for three quarters before getting the staggers to defeat Japan 85-78 to win the gold medal at the World University Games in Taipei.

After upset semi-final wins over the USA and hosts Chinese Taipei, the final looked likely to be a blow out with the Uniroos leading by 22 at three-quarter time.

In the end, a plucky Japan got the margin back to seven at the final buzzer. Whilst it was a lot closer than it looked in the final term, the Uniroos were never really in danger.
