Jump has served various roles on Commonwealth Games associated projects since 2002 when appointed as media and communications advisors to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games organising committee (M2006).
Our involvement with the Commonwealth Games continues for the Gold Coast in 2018, where Jump is working with the organising committee (GOLDOC) on a strategic communications and awareness campaign across Victoria, including a one-year-to-go community engagement and media activity at Federation Square in Melbourne and ongoing media content activities to support the ticket program.
David has hosted a popular podcast named ‘Gold Coast Gold’, which has over 30 episodes published every Friday leading up to the 2018 Games, and started off with Chef de Mission and marathon legend Steve Moneghetti. Other guests have included Olympic swimming great Dawn Fraser, Diamonds head coach Lisa Alexander and rising stars of Australian sport – click here to listen.
During the two-year consultancy with M2006 Jump was responsible for issues management and public and media relations prior to the appointment of the committee’s full-time staff. David Culbert was a key member of the team that launched the Melbourne 2006 brand and devised the Melbourne 2006 communications and marketing strategy for the Games.
Jump’s media and public relations unit played an integral role with Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) and the Australian teams for both the Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
For both Melbourne and Delhi, Jump handled all team communications and announcements on behalf of the CGA, working 18 months out from the Games to manage the Australian team announcements for all 17 sports.
Jump also staged a number of targeted media activities, including successful 2006 and 2010 Australian team uniform launches, and worked with Diadora to launch the team competition uniforms for the 2014 edition of the Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
In 2016, to mark the ten year anniversary of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, Jump devised a program of activities on behalf of CGA to celebrate the milestone, including a traditional PR program across Australian print, TV, radio and online media, along with a series of ‘Great Sporting Moments’ from the Games which featured across a range of digital channels. Highlights included an exclusive anniversary dinner in the committee room of the Melbourne Cricket Club and the emotional return of the McCann family to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, to honour the memorable marathon victory of the late Kerryn McCann.

Jump’s roles across more than 15 years of service have included traditional media and PR, Australian team promotion, community engagement, event management, sponsor leverage, and in the case of Delhi 2010, significant issues management surrounding security, health fears and concerns about village and venue readiness where Jump’s extensive experience in issues management came to the fore during an intense period of media attention and scrutiny.
Jump staff have been part of the media liaison service for the Australian Team and David Culbert has continued his long involvement in the Games as a television commentator at the past five editions, highlighted by his commentary of McCann’s stirring win in the marathon in Melbourne.
